He still pulls some shall we say questionable shit throughout the course of the series (including in this very episode!) Problematic fav? He fits the profile. I don’t know, maybe he’s trying to be on his best behavior since their partnership is new and he doesn’t really want her to know that he can be creep when he wants to be? (Add this to the growing “oh, we’ll get to THAT!” pile.) Don’t get me wrong, I love Mulder as a character. Mulder has Scully meet him at some swanky DC bar which is so not Mulder’s style, or at least so not the style of the Mulder we’ll come to know over the course of the next few seasons. This is a weird episode, not just because it’s called fucking “Deep Throat” (and yes, I understand we are referring to a shadowy source inside the government a la Nixon and not the sex act/porno of the same name) but because there are a few scenes that don’t fit the characters of Mulder and Scully. I was young and hadn’t yet started to build my identity around all the Things I Hate. This is the first time we get the full theme/credit sequence combined with the classic tagline: The Truth is Out There.
#X files season 3 how to#
One thing this show always had going for it was people who knew how to get shots to help to set the tone of episodes. They find him in his underwear covered in a rash. Robert Budahas, a hot shot test pilot who has gone AWOL. I would have bet cold hard cash on it in a bar and TOTALLY LOST that bet.Ĭold open: We’re on an air force base. I totally misremembered what order these episodes are in – I would have put money on “The Jersey Devil” being the second episode of season 1.

I learned something on my recent rewatch of this show. I will not make cheap jokes about this episode’s title.
